Although “Bad Things” is the song that took off, Red Revelations is filled with heavy music that grabs at the soul with unbelievable precision. “Burn For You,” is a riveting song that emphasizes how hot the feeling can be when two people are madly in love.

How one welcomes the New Year varies in significance depending on who you ask. For some people it’s just another day on the calendar; whereas, others may view it as a precursor to how one plans on spending the rest of the year. Everyone at Roseland Ballroom on New Years Eve brought in 2010 with a monstrous countdown followed by a heart-pounding set by none other than New York favorite, Paul Van Dyk.

A 15-strong-track album of flammable-fresh at-home and in-club orientated music, it will again bring F&P’s name to the very epicentre of the dance scene. Filo & Peri have brought some of the world’s finest (and previously undiscovered) singers and songwriters into the spotlight.

McCready said, “I’d sum it up as kind of a tight, concise, rock ‘n’ roll record with kind of pop or maybe new wave elements to it… It’s a really quick record, but I like that element to it. I like the sparseness of the songs and the way that Brendan pulled us together and made us play as good as we could.”

While getting hit by a “HA-DOU-KEN” or “SHYO-RYU-KEN” may land you in the hospital being pounded by a “SONIC BOOM” can leave you wanting more like it did for a packed Santos Party House when the Boom Boom Satellites (BBS) unleashed a barrage of audio mayhem on the big apple this past November.

Also known as the “Techno Capital of Norway,” Tromsø has produced many talented musicians like Bjørn Torske, Frost, Kings of Convenience’s guitarist/songwriter Erlend Øye, and most notably Röyksopp’s Torbjørn Brundtland and Svein Berge, who in late November lit up New York City’s Webster Hall brighter than Tromsø’s winter skies.

The band’s sunny disposition stems from their bouncing, funky beats, soothing rhythms and mosh-pit style shout-it-out choruses. That’s the stuff that a band with great promise is made of. If you like Sublime, then forget about Badfish and look to these guys for your fix of funky stoner tunes.

This psychedelic rock vibe is alluring and different from the everyday norm in psych rock. Blake plays his guitar wildly and purposefully in his solos, Paz is just a whirlwind powerhouse on her guitar, and Derek is wildly pounding, master of the drum set.

If her music is uncommon, so is Maiysha’s back story. Born to an attorney father and a TV journalist mother, Maiysha grew up as a self-described “Cosby kid-I have no shame about it,” she says, “to the extent that my parents even nicknamed me Denise, because I was a little quirky, with weird outfits and big hair.”
